Default Battery light on and beeps on start-up......but car has 12+ volts?

so after sitting since the beginning of January due to a random stall/die while driving and its unwillingness to start afterwards.....i went on my "lets figure this out" mode.

Thought initally the altetnator was the culprit(still not ruling it out yet), but replaced my battery under warranty, chexked for fuel & spark-all was good and well,but....car still wouldnt start.

So, not knowing the condition of serp belt-i changed it and BOOM! fired right up.Literally....right up. Topped off some fluids and whatnot and let it run for about 30mins then took her for a ride.

Car ran absolutly great. Idle was perfect, no smoke out exhaust....ran great! But battery light was on and whn restarted it beeps 1 time(LCD display is janked so I cnt read the icon) any ideas fellas?

And the car is a 2001 A4 Quattro. 2.8L w/ auto. Thnx again for any info.

And.....i went out today, looked like the volts droppd below 12 at a stop light....soon as I took off-volts back above 12. Doesnt that inquire the alt is working n doing its job?

Hey. Take your vehichle to your nearest napa, and have them hook up a battery/alternator/starter tester (handheld device). If they do not have one, ask around for mechanics or parts stores that might have one. It does sound like an alternator but it is better to get it tested before spending big money. The tests are free fyi. Actually just had napa do one, on a subaru today
