Easier then replacing the fuel pump

 

lol no the filter has been sitting in the trunk for months. The pump makes a really loud whine and when it sputtters, 1 sec. later the car sputters. I have noticed that when the tank is on 1/4 it runs better but as soon as I fill it up all hell breaks loose again.

 

I would change the filter first and if the problem is still there change the pump. Just not smart to keep an old filter in the car when putting in a new pump.
