Default Best time to change oil

Hey guys

Ive got a 1.8T and i am about to change my oil, and remove the sump to get rid of any debris in the pan. The car has been sitting in the driveway for a week and has not been turned on at all during that time.

Should i change the oil without turning it on? or should i run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil so it drains easier. Reason i am asking is because my reasoning is that during the time it has been out of action all the sediment and debris in the oil has sunk down to the pan, so i believe running it would push all of that debris back up into the engine.

Any help would be good, thanks

Anytime the car is warm, hot works fine to but that second when the drain plug come out and oil pours over your fingers you don't want it too hot

I agree with your plan to change it cold based on what you're saying. If you were just doing a routine oil change then having heat in there would help it drain. But you're talking about dropping the pan to clean everything out so I'd do it now, without starting it, exactly for your own reason - everything is in the pan where you can get it out of the engine. Fire it up and circulate it and you're gonna put some of that crud back into the engine. I'd do it the way you're thinking and not start it.
