yes it is a big deal. it's a check valve. you can get a generic one from autozone that looks just like it. make sure you install it in the right direction of flow as it only let's air through one way. i'm surprised you're car's not running funny right now.
no it's not a fuel line mexican. it's a vacuum line

There are 6 of these check valves (+1 on tips cars) on various lines in the engine bay. If its broken you are losing vacuum and possibly also when in boost.
Most are linked to the PVC system, but the evap purge valve (not one of these check valves) is the one that handles the gas fume build up.

Not to divert from the OP toooo much (it is still related tho) but can anyone give me a picture of where the check valves are located in the 2.8 engine bay? I've been chasing/putting up with a vac leak for over 3 months and after replacing the 3mm braided vac lines that chill right on top of the throttle body, I still have a rough idle and vagcom reads me with skewed fuel trim figures.
A few people have mentioned checking those check valves, and now that I know what they look like (assuming they look the same for both engines, which I cant really imagine why they wouldnt be the same) I could probably track them down if I was looking in my engine bay at the moment, but seeing as it is currently after midnight here, I figured I'd check if anyone had a spare picture laying around to give me a head start on where to look for the valves.
TIA, and sorry again to threadjack
