boost leaking????
ok, here I go again... I have a 99 1.8t, when I first got the car it was boosting 13psi... I driven it 150miles and I notice the boost has come down to 9 psi and when I have full throtle it come from 9 psi to 5 psi.... I'm starting to think I have a leak of boost on the lines to the gauge.. I can hear my turbo spooling with no problem...Please help.. I got the car, and I'm trying fix it the right way!!

not to be a jerk, but what do you want us to say? if you think it may be leaking, check all the lines and hoses for leaks. if you search you can find instructions on how to test the system for leaks by either making a pressure tester or by using the tennis ball method.
sorry, when i bought my car it was chipped already so i didnt realize something when i replied to you: stock these cars will only be boosting 8-9psi max. so 9 psi is about right for you. not sure how you saw 13psi before though...
it is normal that the boost will decrease as you get closer to redline. that is because the higher the engine revs, more air flow (measured in cfm) will be required to maintain a given psi.
if you get a chip, you would see boost spikes of about 18psi, and it would drop to probably around 12 as you approach redline. hope that helps...

hmm, then there is definitely something wrong. first would be to check the line running to the gauge to make sure it isnt leaking and giving you a bad reading. if that checks out, scan the car for codes to make sure nothing is stored. what is your gauge showing for vacuum at idle?
when i got my speed tuning chip i was boosting around 18. a couple months later i noticed it would spike to 18 and drop off very fast, a lot faster than it should. my friend is a mechanic so we took his vacuum tester and found i had a leak in the hose to my boost gauge. i was even feeling a power loss, when i fixed it i could feel it right away.
thanks guys, I bought the car from a guy that did a lot of work to it , but it took short cuts, I'm working the bugs out of it.. and I'm lil new to this Audi world but not to tunning... I went today and got some new conections for the gauge. I'm using all Parker components and the like holds up to 125 psi, I use this brand for Hydrolics ( I'm a Forklift Tech ) and seals better.. Zadeluca at idle it reads -20 psi. also I have a manual boost controller and it's set low.. which is supposed to be 13psi.
here is what I got...
99 Avant 1.8t
chiped
H&R 2 in drop
18 Binno wheels
GEIC i think is spell right chip
Front mount intercooler.
BOV
PS.. I have a CEL but the previous owner put a test pipe and I need to get a angle block for the second O2, I'm having one made..
paintballpimp765---- when you had a leak did the car hasitate when accel??
