brake problem help please
Ive searched the forums and havent found anything like the problem im having. When im breaking, right before i come to a stop, my breaks make a grinding sound. I can feel it in the break pedal. Its a strong vibrating that comes from the break pedal. It sounds like the sound is coming from the break pedal too, not the wheels. This only happens when im going very slow right before i come to a complete stop. I have no idea what this could be. I have no mal lights on. I cannot run vag com on my new computer for some reason and the old one is toast. I have a 2001 manual a4 1.8t.
I checked the break fluid last night and the level was right. i checked again today.... olive green color. does this happen. I dont think ive ever seen olive green break fluid before. I have checked my break fluid before but honestly i didnt pay enough attention to look at the color.
Unless your car is throwing a code vag com I dont think is going to help you. Have you taken off the front or rear tires (you didn't say if the sound was coming from the front or rear)? Olive green is not the usual color. I would go ahead and bleed it, but I'm guess that's not going to fix your problem. Pull the pads and rotors off (simple task) see if there is any unusual wearing. You can go to checkers/advance and get oem like pads and rotors for $130 for either the front or rear. Start with the simple things and then work your way from there.
I am going to go ahead and change the fluid as soon as i can. I havent taken any of the wheels off yet. I had my pads replaced a few months ago and the rotors were fine. it sounds like it is coming from the break pedal itsself not from the wheels. so i guess it could be coming from the master cylinder.
Just to tell you some more about it. Whenever i hear this griding/feel the vibrating, I release the break and it continues for a couple seconds then it stops and i press the break down again and nothing happens. This happens every single time right before i come to a complete stop (less that 5mph)
