A/C leaks - most likely cause?

Do it yourself. There's nothing special about working on the a/c system. A word of caution though. The lines and fitting are aluminum and they have a tendency to fuse together and tear up the threads when you try to take them apart. If that happens, there isn't much to do about it but to replace the shreaded parts. I had the problem with mine, I saved the threaded collar on the line that I had fixed by picking out the pieces of threads out out the collar, but the dryer had to be replaced. Be sure to replace any o-rings you come across.

Yeah like said above those lines can be hard to get off. I had to pull my whole bumper so i could pull the line and the condenser at the same time so i could have someone remove my lines.
