Default Oil Leaks

Hello everyone,

I have a 99 A6 with 105kwhich has been producing a "burnt oil" smell for the first 5-10 miles of driving each day. Just one week ago I had the tranny rebuilt and thought it might be tranny fluid. Had it checked out today and was informed of "a few" minor oil leaks from engine. One of the leaks is from the cam seal. Question - the amount of oil that is being lost (under my car in the morning) is less than a mable size puddle. Do I need to address this right away or can I monitor my oil level and leave be for now. After paying for the tranny job - I am not in a rush to drop more $ the very next week. What do you think.

Thanks

KO

Default RE: Oil Leaks

My cam seals leaked very little for maybe 6 months to a year before I really ever noticed more than just a little smell. Then one day when cold (-10) they started to dump oil, a lot of oil actually. But after a few days when it warmed up they returned to there normal leaking. I had them fixed a couple weeks ago. If you have not had your timing belt done yet, just have them done at the same time as your due.

Jeff-

Thanks for the reply. All of my scheduled maintance is up to date. I just wanted to make sure that these things were not going to just fail and leave me with a hugh repair bill. I plan on getting the seals/gaskets replaced this summer.

Thanks for your input.

Default RE: Oil Leaks

Quite a few Audi owners driver months/years with this small leak. We won't even notice the leak if it wasn't for the oil dripping onto the hot exhaust and the burnt fumes getting sucked into the heating/ac system. But do keep an eye on the oil dipstick, top up as necessary.
