Cam Chain tensioner?

Cam Chain tensioner?
So i got a CEL (P0011-intake camshaft position timing over advaned) i popped the hood and when i start up it rattles a bit but only at idle like under 1300 rpms but when i nuetral it seems normal then put it in Drive at idle it rattles fairly loud. its coming from under the valve cover. i havent taken it off yet but from what ive read on here its prolly a cam chain tensioner. am i correct? im going to take off the cover tomorrow to take a look and see if the chain is loose. if its the cam chain tensioner which im pretty sure it is ive been quoted about 680 for the part and 6 hours of labor. if i were to get the part is it that hard to replace it? if not is there maybe a write up on how to do it?
Thanks in advance

RE: Cam Chain tensioner?
If it kinda sounds like a diesel yes its the tensioner, you might wanna try seafoaming the hell out of the oil before replacing the tensioner, sometimes its a little bit of sludge blocking the oil flow to the small passages in the tensioner.
If that is a no go, then changing the tensioner is what you have to do. Changing the tensioner isn't much harder than changing the valve cover. Just take off the cover, un-bolt all the cam caps, use a channel lock to hold the timing belt to the cam sprocket, then pull up the tensioner. This all has to be done at TDC of course and the cams have timing marks at the back of them, the timing marks have to have 16 chain links between them like in the pic below. When re-installing the cams don't torque down the cam caps before running them all down by hand first, and only tighten them to 10NM. I had a couple crack on me just a little while ago, it isn't common, but it can happen on engines that have been overheated.

RE: Cam Chain tensioner?
Fellas, I'm new on the forums and digging for options regarding a oil leak at the cam tensioner. Tensioner seems fine, but the seal needs to be replaced. (dealer wants $630 for this job!) Saw on another thread that it is possible to change the seal and gasket on a B6 without removing the tensioner. Is this possible on a B5 as well?

RE: Cam Chain tensioner?
well while mine is idleing it does sound like a diesel so it makes me think my cam chain is messed up but when i accelerate quickly i get this rattle that sounds like a chain that has too much slack and im getting pissed would that be a symptom also guys?
