Can somebody Help. Weird Noise.
Ok so i have a 1999 audi a4 1.8t quattro, that since i bought it a year ago has given me nothing but problems. Currently i have a few issues but the major one it the fact that. i have aftermarket 18" rims on the car right now. about 2 weeks ago i blew my rear passenger side tire. the car sat for a couple weeks until i could get the new tires on. i am now driving the car again but just started noticing a weird noise... When driving either interstate or highway speeds, 65 or 75, if i go to pass someone with heavy acceleration. i get a weird like rattling noise that turns into more of a grinding when the car downshifts. also when leaving a stop sign or stoplight in town, heavy acceleration with a sharp turn brings the noise about, small bumps make more of a clanking noise.. i was thinking wheel bearing at first but that was opted out by the fact that occasionally when coming to a complete stop, i put the car in park and then immediately put it into reverse or drive, the rattling/grinding noise comes and goes, occasionally not always tho. i though maybe rear dif mount but checked it and there is very little movement and still looks fine. if anyone has and idea what this could be either comment, message me, or text/call me at 1-402-394-1149. thanks in advance for any help.
i agree with dude above... give ur tranny a service.. see if that stops the ''grinding noise" and as for the clanking noise i have the same symptom in my car right now... im pretty sure its the front axle... just havent figured out which one yet...
i know my front outer cv boot is torn. and its on my list of to dos. probably swapping both front axles anyways. but the sound is more from the back.. would a front passenger cv joint sound like its coming from the back? thanks guys
No, but there's CV axles in the back too
If you're going to swap the axles, I would consider rebuilding them instead. The quality of aftermarket axles is very sketchy. If you're set on replacing them, give Marty at Raxles a call, I can't say enough good things about that guy.
