I just bought an 2002 2.7T and I started to notice a funny noise. It only occurs when pulling away from a cold start after the vehicle has been sitting for a few hours. Right when I'm going forward, its almost a slight crunch or grind sound. I feel it more through the pedels and steering wheel than actually hearing it. I know its a good possibility that its just the brakes letting go and my local dealer says everything is within specs, but I'm still a little worried about it.

Has anyone experienced or heard of something similiar?

 

its the abs system initializing,i believe it's normal and i've experienced it on many vehicles.doesn't mean it needs brakes either.

 

but be sure to check brake pads and around wheels for any brake fluid just to be sure.but it is a pulse,rumble,grindish half second thing right, that you feel through the brake pedal

 

Thanks for the input, I am planning on checking out the pads over the weekend. I forgot to mention its a 6sp, is there any chance it could be from the self adjusting clutch?

 

i don't think so.i live on a hill and when i back up the driveway and head downhill,first time i brake,it does that and always has,i've never had any brake issues.
