All the longitudinal 1.8t should work, you will need the matching ecu. AEB is more desired, i believe it has a bigger port head on it.

No. This is incorrect. He needs to use an 06a block if his car is an 01. In order to use an older 058 block, he'd need to make/swap wiring harnesses and a bunch of other ****.

Yeah there are some pretty substantial wiring changes through the years: ignition control module (AEB has it, ATW/AWM doesn't), secondary air injection pump (ATW/AWM has it, AEB doesn't), variable valve timing (AWM only), MAP sensor (ATW/AWM) and the differences between the drive-by-wire(ATW/AWM) and drive-by-cable(AEB) motors. They also used many different ECU's over that time period. I'm sure I missed some things.

In theory, any 1.8T would FIT, but they would be far from a direct drop in. If you could find a complete donor car with a could engine including accessories, wiring harness, and ECU that would be the easiest way.

Yes you missed several others lol. And its still a huge project. Not to mention that people only do it to upgrade from a narrowband setup (058) to a wideband one (06a) for much better tuning options.

jesus christ.
I stand corrected, I thought they all were , sort of the same minus the wiring. Basically they all fit you just need every bit from the engine your swapping in as most things won't interchange? Sounds like you need to swap in the engine you have. But in regards to your other thread, i don't see why your thinking swap when you haven't addressed your problem.

op can infact use any 06a engine, so he has the choice to use engines out of transverse vw's as well. the block and head and interals will all swap over. EVERYTHING else must be used from the awm motor. this means oil pan, motor mounts, harness, sensors (not sure about vvt. id crossreference part numbers on that). but you get the point. an 06a block is an 06a block. you can even use a block out of a b6 1.8t. you have many options for engines, you just cant use one older than 2001 out of an audi at least. i do believe transverse jettas came with 06a blocks in 2000 too.
