Anything can be done. It all depends on how much money you want to spend.

yeah, basically buy a 1.8t that go totaled from behind and swap everything you need out. It can be done but usually is not the most cost effective option, but if your engine is already blown why not do it. Also ignore the haters who will tell you to just sell the car and buy a 1.8t instead.

I think you would need the engine, ECU, engine mounts, and something for the dash I think, But CincyTT, or Chaos could help you more on that than I can.

Everything engine-related, all underhood wiring, transmission (I don't think the 1.8T trans and 2.8 trans are compatible, but I'm not sure), drive axles, possibly suspension uprights (depends on the differences with the axles, I would imagine - they may be compatible at the hubs though), and probably a bunch more stuff I'm forgetting. Use the search feature and you should find the info you need though - it's been brought up before and I know the info is out there in the archives. Rest assured, it's going to be a lot of parts and a lot of labor but the chassis are the same, so it can definitely be done.

the transmissions will fit up but the gears are differnt, but it will bolt up, and will work. suspension would have to be replace the exhaust will need to be fabbed someway also.

it can be done and im not gonna lie the selling at getting a 1.8t is the best way to go but if its a project car that you and friends will be working on go for it. also if your going this far why not get the be all end all mod, a VW VR6 turbo swap from 034motorsport.

^+1 (tho i dont know about be all end all)

why swap in a 1.8t when you can do a vr6. there's a little bit more work involved, but not by much. unless your not into modding, the vr6 will be a better choice. but im guessing you are since you want a 1.8t

Thought about this idea when I have to change my engine. Car is in perfect condition. Engine has 270K. Still running strong (knock on wood). I was thinking about the 1.8t or the VR6 swap. Ahhh but the $$$$ to be spent. IDK.
