Default Can you drive a A4 1.8T with a turbo that doesnt boost - searched

Hi, just wondering how far I could drive a 1.8t with a turbo that isn't boosting, I found a good deal on a car and just want to know if i could drive it with the turbo not boosting and not due damage. I hope this doesnt sound to stupid I need to make a decision fast though. Thanks, Nick

absolutely you can. when im driving like a grandpa, the car doesnt boost at all. you just wont be able to accelerate as quickly if you try to get in it. the car knows the when it isnt getting any boost so it isnt going to flood the engine with fuel or anything like that.

sorry you missed out on the deal.

short answer is yes, but the longer more correct answer is not unless you know why there is no boost. some reasons a car stops producing boost are not ok to keep driving with. if its something like a stuck open wastegate or DV then that should be fine to drive on.

I ran my gsx (eclipse turbo) with the wastegate clamped up so it wouldn't boost. No boost would be just like a honda, haha. But a stuck dv would cause the car to run pretty rough I would imagine. But when cars loose boost its usually a blown turbo (fins gone, etc..)

NA 1.8t FTL. LOL

Yeah it isn't an issue since the exhaust will still get thru the turbo, car will just feel very slow since there isn't anything like making trying to make a 3200 lbs car move with 70whp.

.....with an unknown turbo problem. that could turn out to be a money pit. its more of a gamble then a fantastic deal.

But even a good running A4 1.8t is a money pit, so it isn't like it could be any worse. Plus if someone is going to build the motor and go BT or BAT that would have been the perfect car.
