haha. boot. youre not from america are you? im not understanding how theres a metal plate in the way of dropping the rear seats. but the same things happened to my "boot". i dropped the seats, and took apart the locking mechanism from the inside. got it to pop the trunk and took it apart. i just messed around with it and it has worked since

Wow, I've heard of the rear seats folding down being an option but had never seen that set up before. It was my understanding that that option was standard on the UK A4s. Was that car imported from somewhere else?

I think your best bet would be to take it to a locksmith and get the trunk lock fixed.

The other option...there should be a safety release inside the trunk in case someone gets locked inside. Use a flashlight and see if you can locate this release, then use a bent wire to grab the release and pop it open.

Good luck, and no need to call it a trunk if you're used to calling it a boot, the internet is international and we all speak/type a little differently. We know what you mean.

You can get them over here as basic cars. Nothing fancy, manual windows, cloth interior, no cruise, no AC. My old BMW 530 had cloth and manual windows, the wifes 520 only has power front windows cloth and no cruise.
