Default **HANDBRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CONNECTION HELP**

does anybody know how the handbrake light switch is attached to the hand brake lever inside the center console?

if you could explain or better still if ANYBODY has a picture of how it is connected i'd really appreciate it, i just cant work it out!!!

I don't know the exact connection, but that circuit is a "ground-complete" circuit. This means that the dash light always has 12V applied, and when you pull the brake lever, that applies the ground to the circuit and turns the light on. Where the wiring is routed though, I don't know - it's got to be part of the main chassis or body harness though - wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

i have taken off the center console and have got the handbrake light switch free. its not connected to anything. i know how it works etc i just need to know how it connects to the handbrake lever for it to apply the pressure which would push it inwhen the handbrake is off. do you know what i mean?

Yep, I follow exactly what you're saying. Unfortunately I am not sure how that is set up. PM The Russian - his whole interior is practically stripped. He can probably look through the window and tell you lol.

go to autozone and see if they have an a4 repair manual that is out of the shrink wrap or the public library might have arepair manual. my public library does and i used to work at an autozone so the manager just let's me do w/e i want lol

i have a haynes a4 manual, sadly it just says that it is connected to the handbrake lever and doesn't say where or have any pictures. i'll now PM the russian and try my luck

Too bad you didn't post this earlier. I just put my center console back together yesterday. The switch is mounted so that the brake lever pushes the plunger on the switch in when the brake is off creating an open circuit. When the lever is pulled, the plunger extends completing the circuit and turning on the little light on the dash. I found a couple of pictures that might help you though. The fifth picture down on this page and this one might help too.
