Default car starts without pushing in clutch

soo i just found this out on accident last night, but the car starts without me having to push in the clutch... now the only car ive ever seen this happen on is my roommates old 280zx and thats because it was a 5 speed swap...

now is this normal for audi? cuz when i did the vin look up thingy a while back it stated that the car came with a manual tranny... so im kinda curious why it does this... any input would be helpful.. thanks

That's odd... If I remember right, someone once told me that the clutch has to be in to trip a sensor to the ECU to tell it it's ok to start up, that way idiots don't try to start it up with it in gear and do all sorts of damage. I would imagine if you made sure it was in N before every start, then it wouldn't need the clutch to be in to make sure the motor and starting motor don't have any load on them at start, but like I said, some people wouldn't be clever enough to think to do that and it would start causing lots of problems. If I have recalled this correctly and there is in fact a switch associated with pushing the clutch in to start, yours may be shot?

well i never leave it in gear when i turn the car off... everyone else does and it bugs the **** out of me lol... but as far as the lil switch i know what ur talking about... some cars its on the floorboard and the clutch pedal actually pushes against it... others its a trip wire persay that once it passes a certain point it says ok lol

but delic if urs does it too then screw it... it must be good haha... what year is yours again?

Maybe someone bypassed the switch for a remote starter at one point?

hmm interesting... maybe its a defect from audi for the 96 model.. who knows.. but no there was never a remote start or alarm on the car... there is an alarm now but no remote start.. oh well.. just another fancy or annoying thing about the b5 lol
