the bf just told me that its not electrical. they think it was a sound deadner that was on fire. my bf read the manuel and it said flashing cel means drive with "reduced power" [or to the dealership so they can rape me for more money] home..blah blah. i have an auto zone like 5 min from my house will i make it there without it catching on fire again? or should i just wait till i order the coil packs?

I wouldnt run the risk of damaging anything. Running on a missfire is not good for the engine. And its been said more than once on here that a blinking CEL is caused by a missfire so i wouldnt trust your boyfriend that has never worked on an audi before.

+ 2.... But, it does reduce power due to coil packs being bad most of the time. Sometimes you can rent a coder from auto stores. Yes, tt could of been insulation that caught on fire, but the fire probably took some electrical things out with it. Post some pics of the damage and maybe we can identify the parts that need replacing.
