Default CEL Codes...

I just got the A4 and I pulled the codes:

P1402, P0401 and P1504. Any one tell me if cleaning the EGR will get rid of the P1402 and P0401. I don't know what the P1504 is-and what do I need to do to fix that?

Default Removal of Aftermarket Radio

Sorry to ask this but I am a rookie at Audis but searching and learning as fast as I can. I can't seem to get any specific answers on the search.

Well I just got the A4 (1997 2.8 5 speed) and the former owner's son wants his $119 dollar pioneer radio back@!!! He mentioned he'd ask his son if he wanted it and I offered to just buy him a new one but he wants this PARTICULAR one back !! My luck its discontinued. So I may have to pull it. Kid for some odd reason moves up to an A6 (dad's hand me down) and he still wants his friggin $119 radio....

If I pull the aftermarket radio and give it back to him...How do I tell what type of stock radio I have? They gave me a single deck casette radio (the stocker). Will I need the radio keys to pull the aftermarket head unit? and what else to get the stockie back in?

Also-I have a dash light in the tach its a green (<-1->) that stays lit all the time. Can't find it in the manual or the factory downloaded one. What is this light? The CEL light?

I remember their family mechanic said he couldn't get the CEL light to turn on and I just searched and found that some A4s with aftermarket radios kill the CEL function? SO what is this GREEN light?

Just buy another Pioneer to replace it with. The connector on the radio side should be the same so it should be a drop in. But why would you give the other one back? It's not your fault they sold you the car. They can't just demand it back and leave you with no stereo.

They did give me the stock radio. Am/FM with a casette I may just get another pioneer..good call. DO I need the keys to get the pioneer out like the stock radio?

The description and ASCII interpretation of the green light leaves a little bit to be desired, could you post a pic?

To my knowledge, replacing the stock radio can mess with the K line, preventing you from using VAG COM or a code reader, but the CEL should still work.

Like dragon said, the people sold you the car as is. Unless you're friends with the family that sold you the car, I'd tell them to sit on it.

I'll get a dashboard shot of the mystery green light. I did get a list of codes from the mechanic-but no CEL.

I am friends with the granddad of the kid who wants it back. I really don't want to take it out but if he WANTS it I should do it.

Do I have to use the stock radio keys ot get the aftermarket unit out, or do I need to start taking apart the center console, etc to get the aftermarket unit out?

The only green light on my dash is the light that says the headlights are on. Sure its not that? The CEL isn't going to be green.

You shouldn't have given it back to them. You were not obligated to do so.

I agree with dragon. I'd tell the kid to f*ck off. In any event, you won't use the stock radio keys to pull the aftermarket radio. It may or may not have its own set of radio keys that you'd have to track down, or it might just pop out. In either case I wouldn't think thaking the dash completely apart would be necessary
