Default CEL and HP loss related?

I had read somwhere that when you get a CEL on ur car you will lose HP because of somthing the ECU does to prevent major damage just wondering if this is true or a myth and if its true how much HP are we talking about?

Depends, if you go into limp mode then yes (you'd definitely know it, feels like the turbo isn't there). Also are you getting a constant CEL or a flashing one? If its flashing don't even drive it until you can get it checked with a VAG or at the dealer.

Autozone/Advance also have free scanners for you to use and clear codes, but they're very basic and shouldn't be used solely if you're noticing something definitely off about your car.

Ya just caught that other thread, I agree with what everyone else is saying about O2 sensors/filter/etc... thats the kind of mileage I get average city and I'm boosting at twice stock so theres gotta be something stupid going on.

How long have you owned your car? A SAI fault won't cause your car to be slower. If you have a stock 1.8T, they are naturally slow.
