Default Check Engine light

this morning i got up to go to school, i pulled out of the drive and then my CEL came on. I know this could be a number of things but if anyone could tell me just some really common problems that can cause a CEL. My car is a 2000 a4 1.8T q tip, i have had the timing belt replaced already, it has about 112k miles, and all the fluids, except wiper and hydraulic which are both a little low but not empty ,are good. On my drive to school i couldnt feel or hear any difference in the engines performance. Any ideas for what this could be would be great Thanks.

youve gotta take it to an advance auto parts, or autozone and get a free scan so you can get a read on the codes. There is a plug right under your steering wheel. They will be able to identify what the codes mean for you as well.

Just saying you have a check engine light on is a rediculous request, no offense, i was there too about a year ago.

It could be a lot of things. Best bet is to find a vag-com near you and pull the codes.

it means you need to get your engine checked....... lol jk

ironic but actually this happened to me too today and I went to autozone and the guy scanned my car with the OBDII scanner

It came up with the code P1296 - Fuel Air Metering

He cleared the code and if it comes up again I'll take action

btw, do any of you know what this is????? He wasnt sure but im not too worried, its probably just the MAF sensor

Not sure about the "green" ones. My temp sensor was replaced and should have asked @#$#. Another thing might be an 02 sensor but with that code the temp sensor.
