Default Check Engine Light

Yesterday I started my 2.8L 12V and after idling a moment it shut down. I looked and saw a CEL on. I ran it home, Good thing it was only a mile away and scanned it. I received a code telling me: * Air Mass Meter Signal Too Low *. Does a MAF go bad just like that or does it need cleaned? I'm going to look at it in an hour or so. Its the 96 in my Sig and theres about 144,000 on the clock with no major problems ever. I've had it now for close 5 years.

Thanks...

Well I'd definitely try cleaning it before replacing it. That's usually fixed any problems I've ever had with mine.

I took the hose off and looked inside and its as clean as can be. Started the engine and unplugged it and engine shut down. The plug looks clean also. Seems to be something loose cause if I even tap it gently the motor stalls. I think its shot.
