Default To chip or not to chip...

Okay so I ordered a fully loaded APR ECU. It's got 91,93,100,Valet and some other neat gadgetry for $690 but with this much going towards a ECU upgrade the question popped into my head... should I just go ahead and go BT? A K04 will do just fine as 250hp on the A4 is as much as I'm aiming for. If I want to build a beast I'll get an RS or an S. But if I got BT how much more am I looking to spend? Is 35 more hp worth the BT upgrade? If you guys can provide me with links or tips I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd like to hear from the BT people how much its been worth it for the K04. Thanks

Edit: the 93 octane program puts me at 214 hp / 247 lb. tq plus exhaust, dv, intake and dp. Is a BT a big upgrade from that? Enlighten me

Well with the BT you need to replace some things it wouldbe much easier and cheaper to just Chip it.

214 crank hp, not the numbers you actually see at the wheels. if you're just looking for CHP then you got yourself a nice build there. you'll also need fmic, mbc, new plugs, possibly new coilpacks, and possibly a new ICM.

A K04 with a P-16 file and front mount is usually more than enough for zipping around town at a decent amount of speed.
But 50-100 more horsepower for a BT setup really does feel like a different car, i would spend the money on a full BT setup unless you have strict emmisions like california has.

Unfortunately yes those #'s are at the crank so I'm still under 200. I'm fully aware I'm gonna need a larger IC, coilpacks and such. Maybe a larger airbox? Can anyone give me an approximate price on a BT? Something that will maintain daily drivability but quicker than a chip. Reminder: I got a tip. I don't think I'll need to replace a TC or valvebody since its a considirably similar turbo and power outage. Can the A4's tranny get their codes changed for better shifting times and select different ratio's?

To run BT you wouldn't need new coilpacks and an ICM, the stock ignition system is more than capable of handling over 500HP.
If you looking for an approx. price, lets break it down.
Turbo= $600-$1500 depending on what turbo you're gonna use, eliminators cost more but you don't have to use as many supporting mods.
FMIC= anywhere from $200 all the way up to $1,500 (not required using an eliminator)
Hoses and lines/fittings= maybe $400 for the good stuff.
Down pipe + full exhaust= ranging from $400 to $1,800, custom made is much cheaper than buying a kit.
Tuning + injectors =$1,200 not including dyno time.

Add that altogether and you get around $3,000 for an eliminator set up without an FMIC,
or around $4,500 for a full set up decked out, it could go over $5,000 if you get into the big turbos, which you shouldn't use anyway because you have a TIP.

Well my intake has a stock maf and I think the k04 kits have a larger MAF and other intake stuff. I just hadn't done my research on BT's since I never was planning on doing it for the A4 or A6 but considering I'll be spending that much to still be under 400hp I'll hold on the BT. I think I'll just stick to the chip and basic mods considering I like this car as a DD or back up, hence the tip tranny. Just wanted a little more kick to zip around. Thanks for the advice either way guys.
