Default chipped k03s vs chipped ko4

chipped KO3s with the "Hammer" file from GIAC or K04 with GIAC software. replacing turbo anyway. 2001 1.8T manual. i searched but couldn't get numbers on the hp of the two.

Hammer file is only for the K04 turbo, not k03 and requires a 5 bar fpr and a fmic.

I dont have a ko3 I have a ko3S which I'm told isnt much difference from the ko4 (not enough to switch). Now I have another ko3S and can get a pretty new ko4 for $100. I want to know if there is info I'm missing on HP difference on the GIAC chip/ko3S vs. Hammer file/ko4.. On GIAC They have my year but nothing about the base HP and if the chip is for the ko3S. Im running a ko3S/APR chip w/Carbonio and a straight through SilverLine exhaust and will just put the new ko3S on if the HP isnt worth $300 extra for the ko4/Hammer. I plan on getting the GIAC version for the ko3S anyway so no extra cost in the chip just the 5 bar and $100 for the ko4.

theres only a 15 or so horsepower difference. the hammer file requires injectors and possibly a bigger MAF. if the extra work and money is worth the slight bit more HP for you then go for it.

nope, thats required on the pc-16 file.

hammer is on the awm, and only requires a 5 bar fpr and a fmic.

What kind of HP are you getting "A4Speed"? It sounds like your set-up is where I'm going. GIAC hasn't returned my e-mail about the dif between KO3S and KO3 with software so I'm leaning towards your set-up.

depends on what your power goals are. a k04-15 can max out at 250 chp with the hammer or pc-16 file with all the mods.

i bought a k04 from gpopshop where the compressor wheel is 4-5 mm larger then the k04-15 and they use a k03s turbine wheel (bigger then k04-15) so the turbo i have maxes out closer to 275 chp.

if thats what your goal is then do that but most people who put in a bigger turbo want 300 whp or more, so a k04 wouldn't even come close.

your really not going to see a difference chipping a k03 compared to a k03s though.
