GREEN STUFF !!! just let your engine run for 5 mins, ( or let it get warm) and spray very, very religiously all over everything.... then, take a hose and rince clean... vwalla ! then if needed grab a brush and go over things that still needed help

Doesn't spraying any liquid into the engine bay pose a short risk? Surely a lot of the connections under there for various sensors and such aren't fully water tight to be having gallons of water and solvent poured over them. At least that's what I've heard, I could be wrong.

You go tearing down a rain-slicked street or drive through a puddle, and you're going to get water up into the engine compartment, even onto the top of the engine. The only places you really used to have to worry about water getting to is into the air intake or into the distributor. Cover the distributor and air cleaner with a couple baggies, and we used to be good to go (didn't need to keep it running).

Car setups are different now, but you're basically looking at the same thing - keep water out of where water doesn't belong, and no troubles. Cover the air intake and if your car is 5 years old or older, cover the coil packs and ignition modules before spraying water into the compartment.

As for shorts, I'd rather know now than have it die in the middle of the street in nasty weather after I've driven through some water.

I would go easy on the water. Cover the alternator/coilpacks/intake. Some water is fine, but I would go bare hose on this one, you don't want to force water in. And no no no on pressure washer, they have a tendancy to squeeze water where it doesn't belong, like say... past your head gasket.

I have to agree there. Seen plenty of engines letting water in from pressure washing. Other than that nothing to really worry about. If the engine is really opily or greasy you can try some diesel fuel but don't tell the DEC I told you that.
