While hiway driving, climate control "stuck" in econ position. Only econ button light on, NO other buttons will light up or activate. Fan seems perpetually off, no air con flowing. Has anyone else ever seen the CC system freeze in this manner? Suggestions invited and welcome.

 

I have the feeling you have a 99.5, not a 95.5. That means your climate control will give up a lot of info. See this article (it says 2000 and up, but 99.5 qualifies). See code 1, and check the chart so see what it tells you.

Here we are in July, it's 106, has been for the last 2 weeks, predicted to continue ad infinitum. Guess global warming is real after all. Sorry deniers.
My 99.5 a4 climate control system is now and has been fully functioning
since I pushed the recirculation button in an attempt to activate the fault codes screen.
Some days ac starts immediately. When it doesn't, the following steps activate it:
1. push auto and econ buttons simultaneously.
2. listen for climate system to engage, push econ button to toggle off.
3. push manual controls to optimize ac function.

Enjoy the ride.
