Default Clutch setup for BT questions

I am going GT3076 sometime soon and my clutch is already on its way out. What I am debating is if there are any advantages to the single mass over the dual mass? I know they weigh less but I don't see the dual mass weight to be that big a disadavantage.

Also what clutch setups are suggested? I have seen the ECS setup with the S4 conversion and it looks nice but the flywheel seems a bit light.

I want something that will handle the extra hp and engages close to stock and is very duarable. I am liking the Stage 3 Southbend or the Spec stage 2.

I'm no expert with clutches but at the end of the day it comes down to what YOU prefer not what people say as their decision is based on their preferences. I to am using the S4 clutch kit with ECS flywheel and I can't complain, the kit is great. It has been said a lot that with the light flywheels, their is gear chatter, I'm sure some people experience this and some don't, the main benefit is that more power is available at launch as less is required to get the flywheel spinning. With a dual mass flywheel the overall ride will be smoother.

As you mentioned you want something to handle the power while maintaining stock feel then I would suggest the RS4 kit which from what I have read handles 380hp and maintains stock pedal feel. If you go with any higher stage then this, then expect a stiffer pedal.

first and foremost, ditch the dual mass flywheel. with that said, most people will tell you to get a clutchmasters stage 4. i can't have an opinion on that since i dont have one, but i can tell you to upgrade to a 240mm flyhwheel. the extra grabbing area is definately worth it. that is unless you want to spend the money and go with a dual plate setup, but that is cash yo...
your best option is to go with a 240mm clutch/flywheel setup of some sort. which kind? i dont know. name your price what you are willing to spend. if it were me, i would buy the 240mm ra4 flywheel from ecs (i know its thin, but deal with it) and find a disk/pp combo that will work with it it. and keep in mind some disks wont work with it as there are clearence issues with the bolts on the ecs flywheel. do some research and you will figure out that the bolts may need to be ground down on some disk/pp combo's to clear.

I'm running a CM FX300 Fibertuff 240mm w/ a 19lb steel flywheel. VERY nice clutch, great pedal feel, I drive it 60 miles round trip to work every day in DC traffic and once you get used to the engagement point its no more difficult than the stock setup.

Little bit of gear chatter from the input shaft when the clutch pedal is disengaged but nothing obnoxious. Got it for a song from Mr. Hood

The stock clutch setup was a bitch getting used to. I am starting to have some slippage out of mine which I am sure is still stock and now very close to 130,000 miles on it. I like the single mass route but the chatter that comes with it worries me. I would think that it would be hard on the tranny. I have not seen any tranny deaths related to it directly though so maybe its not.

I am also sure that the reduced weight does help but damn the ECS are really light weight. Some weight helps out when shifting as revs don't drop and flat line which with my accidental turbo choice would probably be a good idea.

I was leaning to either the spec stage 2, the ECS kit, or the Southbend stage 2 or 3. I will probably ask Mr. Hood and see if he might have something that I could get for song as well.

I know this is going to get laughed at but I have used the eBay clutches and flywheels befores with good result. I may be a guniea pig and try one of them if I can't find something in my price range.

The disadvantage of a dual mass flywheel is rev hang and the fact that it has a life span. The rev hang becomes more of an issue with a big turbo setup since you end up revvin gout the motor more often and this can cause some lock out when trying to shift quickly. You do want to stick with a steel flywheel which has a good amount of weight, so you might not want to go RA4 since that flywheel is only 12 lbs. Even the VW 2.0T FWD owners are even staying with heavier steel flywheels since that is better suited for street cars.

Spec quality sucks, they are way too hit or miss. Best quality would be Clutch Masters and I give forum discounts on their kits. If you are going to launch the car then I would suggest either a CM 240mm FX400 6 puck with their 19+ lbs Steel flywheel or my custom CM FX850 Super Single but is really only needed if you plan on making 500+whp.
