so here is my dilemma...
i have a 92 zr-1 exhaust in my shed. straight pipe all the way to the mufflers, true duals, and i THINK it's aftermarket, but i'll have to dig it out. I'm thinking about cutting it up, because it's either 2.5" or 3", and straight piping my car, to get a bit more of an exhaust tone to it. I understand the cat is what ties up power, which is why later this winter i'll be throwing a test pipe on, but what i'm stuck on is i don't know if i want to delete the resonator and muffler, or just the resonator, or just the muffler, or no resonator with the zr-1 muffler, or what... i'm just looking for some suggestions. i drive about 1.5 hours one way on weekends between college and home where i have a part time job.. so that means i'm trying to avoid drone, however i want to hear some type of exhaust. can i get some thoughts on this...? i've researched it but it seems that some people say the resonator delete makes it really really annoying and droney, but others say it gives it a nice deep tone with hardly any drone. I can also get an aftermarket muffler so i'm just not entirely sure. i DO know that i don't want to buy an aftermarket exhaust, because quite honestly, i'm not a fan of how much they cost, and when i have stainless tubing out in my shed for free....

 

i had stock exhaust on my 97 a4 1.8t and i took off the resonator sound was the same as stock then i took of the muffler and sounded some what loud but not really and now i just run open down pipe now.

 

when you took of the resonator did it drone terribly even though there was still a muffler?

 

ive got no cat and no resonator with stock muffler. its barely any louder then stock. but i also have a cut out in place where the resonator was, it sounds like a bag of *** when i take the cap off it. imo, dont run straight pipe.

 

from the other threads i've read it doesn't seem like the resonator is all that restrictive..? so maybe i'll just leave it and swap mufflers.

 

I had a straight piped audi. You cant even hear your radio, your *** hurts from vibrations, you get tickets. Its just a bad idea. I even tried a straight through muffler. No bueno.

 

You'll think it's cool for 2 weeks, maybe less.

 

dont do. take out cat, replace with 2.5" pipe, one glass pack, one high quality muffler. call it a day
