Default coolant issue, need help!!!

hey guys i have a 97 2.8 12v. my car has been sitting for a couple weeks now so i went to turn it on this morning after it warm up i noticed that the coolant temp kept going up and the warning light came on so i shut it down. popped the hood and the coolant level started to rise in the expansion tank. the engine has 154k on it and i had the timing kit with the water pump and thermostat job done about 22k ago, almost 3 years ago (the car sat for 9 months)..... do you guys think it could be the water pump or maybe the thermostat is closed?

..oh yea i checked the hoses and they didnt feel like coolant was flowing..the lower one was cool and the upper was warm. i need help guys i dont want to be sharing a car with the girlfriend

Once it cools enough, pop the overflow cap to burp the air out. Top it off if needed and run it again. If it keeps doing this you may have a head gasket tear, but see if you can burp the air out first. The thermostat is a fail-safe design, so that when it fails, it sticks open rather than shut. That way the car won't overheat.
