how will it stall if the engine is connected to the wheels with 4500 pounds of momentum keeping it from stalling?

i realize even if you let it idle vs foot off the gas, its only a negligible amount of fuel saved, and im not arguing that you save some wear on the clutch by going strait to neutral, but im mainly looking for the answer to see if me or my friend is correct.

Okay, if theres no fuel going to the engine it CANT run. It WILL stall. Think of it as if your idling. No fuel, no fire. Just because the car keeps moving doesnt mean the engine wont stall. Yes, the car will keep rolling but if the injectors cut off completely then the car will stall. You would have to start it back up and put it in gear to go again. This logic works whether your moving or at a stand still. Think of it like if you were going down the highway and u ran out of gas. What would happen? You would stall.

actualy think of it like a glider. you have the engine to lift you up, but once you get to 5000 feet, you shut off the engine (like the fuel). you dont have to land to restart it do you? no you glide for a while, then turn it back on when you need power.

if your 5 speed manual is in gear doing 60, if you turn off the key, the engine will still be doing 3000 rpms (dont actualy do that, its not good for it). but my point is, how are you going to stall if the momentum of the car keeps the engine turning? you dont instantly come to a complete stop do you? the gear ratio is locked, the engine physically is locked to the wheels, as long as the wheels are turning, the engine will also be. you cannot stall (0rpms) if your car is moving and the car is in gear, its impossible to get the engine to 0rpms while the car is going 60mph while in gear without pushing the clutch in.

this is the exact reason that clutch braking works. when theres no load on the engine, it wants to idle. if its not allowed to idle, it takes power from the wheels (ie slows you down) untill it gets to 800rpms, then the idle controler adds fuel to keep it at 800.

this is also the reason that pop starting works. you get the wheels moving fast enough then all of a sudden dump the clutch which connects the engine to the wheels. this turns over the engine enough to get it going.

if you were going down the highway and ran out of gas, you would slowly coast to a stop, the engine wouldnt all of a sudden go to 0 rpm. if you somehow magically refilled your tank before you came to a stop (= you turn the injectors back on) you could continue on your merry way and would never stall and never have to restart the car.

Change fluid, if it still does it it could be a worn clutch disk, or worn syncros.

Alright but here. If it shut off the injectors completely. Then it would stall. Not the stalling your talking about like the engine going to 0 rpms. Your dash lights would come on as if you did stall. But im not saying it doesnt do this but how would it keep the dash lights from coming on?

the drain plug is on the very bottom, its a security screw, not a regular torx (12 point tripple square bit with a hole in the center if i remember correctly) so you most likely dont have the correct socket unless you bought it already. ecstuning.com sells them for like $30. its a rip off for one little bit but theres no way around it. the fill plug is a 17mm allen socket which is on the side of the trans.

edit: this is the bit you need...
