Default crank position sensor?

My car keeps shutting off while driving due to the EPC coming on. This time it wouldn't start until I reconnected the battery. I'm 99% sure I'm not overboosting either.

You need a scan. If it's a g28 code (iirc) it's a crAnk sensor problem

There's no CEL and no DTCs. I only have a cheap scan tool though. could it still be
the CPS? Are there any other possibilities?

Even a cheap scanner should show any codes. A big boost or vac leak can stall a car. Start there.
