Default Custom Intake?

Hi, I dont feel like spending $200 $300 or even $380 for an air intake kit for my 2000 1.8TQM ..i would like to know exactly what i need to do to make my own custom intake. what size piping?(i think its 2.75"?) where should i route the filter to? how do i hook up the MAF? and anything else i need to know...thanks!

Don't waste your time, if you wanna be cheap, go to autozone or advance auto parts and pick up a universal air intake. Probably going to run you about the same price and a lot simpler.

i'd say definitely make your own instead of buying a premade kit like I did (evoms intake). you can DIY with parts from autozone or wherever and save a lot

An intake is actually a waste of money as the stock setup is good unless you are planning on going BT. The swiss cheese mod with a K&N drop in will work just fine. The only real benefit is looks and being able to hear the recirculating valve a little more, but no real performance gains.

When you actually get into it, the stock airbox is designed as a ram air set up, those crafty germans. Like carbon freddy said, unless you have a BT or just want the sound, its not worth it. I have a K04 and I don't know if having a cone filter really makes a difference, I do like the sound though.

Just talking about hearing the turbo whistle. Since you have no turbo I doubt it would sound good.

SO, most of you are saying it would be a waste of time?

Well it's more for fun and the noise than for any actual performance. So - you decide if it's worth the money.
