you should way make a better heat shield. I did that setup for about an hour and noticed the iat's were not so well. You could actually feel the heat off of the maf housing and filter even with the sheild that you have in the way. I made a better one that coverd more area and after that it was like night and day difference. Search the diy on one of them here.

I did a intake setup exactly like that way back in 2000-2001, the area around the filter was always much cooler then it was on the other side of the heat shield. It just all depends on if you supply the area with air flow.

If you want to talk hot spot then look at people that end up putting their filter right behind the radiator.

its really not sucking any hot air at all. i know that intakes dont do that much for these cars. I am not stupid. i had even placed a small thermomater by the fillter so see if it is getting hot and its not so ya.
I have very interesting monitor readings from a 07 Porsche 997 C2S that was equipped with an EVO cone filter kit. If I can find the printout, I'll post it. It wasn't throwing a MIL, but the car was idling like a turd and felt sluggish. The owner didn't even know until I pointed it out, as I had done to every owner who owned the kit on their 997.

Most people figure if it's louder, it's got more horsepower, right??!!

I guess if we all drove our A4's backwards all day long it would then be just like the Porsche.

Just proving the point that cone filters set up like this are bogus.

Not bogus but just not ideal on all cars. Its just all on how it is setup with a good heat shield and a supply of outside air. I have been running open filter on my A4 for 8 years.

A cone filter is a smoother air path and able to draw in more air. The fender already has airflow and added in with the stock funnel from the grill, it gets more than enough air. On a stock turbo, he isnt going to notice any sort of gain/loss so who cares? On a bigger turbo, an intake upgrade is a must
