It's easy to pick this stuff up if you're willing to invest some money in tools. But if not then I guess do find a mechanic friend.

P.S. on the subject of CV joints, ITD, what do you think about joints with ripped boots and little grease that are making no bad noises? Mine are like that and I assume they have been for a while, and I plan on just doing the boot kits.

I have all the tools I really need plus some. I have a friend that manages a hardware store and has gotten me all the tools for cost. What I don't really have is the know-how.

And about the CV joints, I am going to be getting under there on Monday to see what the issue is. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about either the boot kits or the half-axle, but I will be sure to post the news when I do get it done.

bump for the CV Joint. Found a half axle that fits the passat, but I don't know if it would work. Any advice?

bump.

I found this axle assembly for almost half price at partsgeek. I want to know what you all think.

I just don't want an EMPI situation, but I want to be as Jewish as possible about my money.

Replace the boot and add grease IMO. My rear CV boot have been ripped for a while and are now making these humming sound so im fukked and have to replace the axle.

Too late for me, at least for one side, it's making noise now, so I went ahead and bought both kits. Haven't gotten a chance to replace them yet though.
