Hello All,

I have a 98' A4 Avant and was wondering if there is a way to turn on or offthe the two thin long displays in the dash. Please see the pics. I search and couldn't find anything specific and was wondering if the display is just not working. Thanks in advance.

button on the bottom of the window washer arm

 

My car doesn't have the little button under the window washer stalk. I did look for that cause my 01' has it.

 

then you either cant do it or i just dont know..there might be a seperate fuse just for that part of the cluster you can pull if no one else has an answer

If your car is a manual transmission the top one is for the automatic gear read out. The bottom row is the outside temperature read out. So maybe in your model those weren't used. Just like when I got front pads this past weekend. They asked if my sensor wires had a round or oblong plug and I told them I would cut the wires off cause they weren't used on mine. Nothing on the stalk on mine either.

Yep, my manual trans car doesn't use the upper display, but my lower one is for outside temp. On occasion, there've been times that I started the car and it didn't light up. Most of the time it worked. Each time that it didn't, it would return the next time I drove the car. It's just a flaky part I think.
