Default Dead Wipers... Need Help

Well my wipers are dead and from what I can tell it is not a fuse and I don't think it is the stalk indicator because that was replaced about a year ago. I can still activate the washers but NO WIPE WIPE. Every now and then it will wipe only once and then nothing. Sounds like the motor to me but I would love some advice before I drop the cash. I plan on checking the motor with my volt meter and all relative grounds whenever the weather breaks... This problem didn't start until a hard rain last night, so it might of shorted out...

Thanks folks

Dude, I'm kind of a pro on this topic now and not by choice. I'm willing to bet that if you turn the wipers on the lowest setting, open your hood, look at the wiper motor to wiper tranny connection. Its really just a friction fitting that holds these parts together and they strip. If the motor is spinning you either need a new tranny or to pin punch the connection of the old one to give it new friction then get the timing right and jb weld it together. This is kind of a pain but really no big deal, see if the motor is spinning.

Thanks guys! I will get into it on Monday and let you know what demons I find. Man the last time I got under the hood there was a dead rat in my airbox! Priceless... and yes I do get better MPG.

Well I pulled the motor today and guess what, it was replaced with the stalk indacator back in 05. So I don't think that is the problem. Has anyone replaced a relay in this department? Does anyone know how I can tell that the motor is not the problem? The washer motor still works and I am still getting nothing from the wiper motor -sound, movement- HELP it's headed for the electrical shop...

I just replaced the wiper motor on my 1999.5 A4 Avant. With a little patience on maneuvering the linkage from behind the ECU box, it should be an easy job. Good luck.
