deaded abs beeb of death
So I havefinally had the time and money to do much of the needed the work that the previous owner overllooked. A few weeks ago, my car developed a new problem. The abs light will. Come on solid and the brake light will flash. It is not a constant. Light and sometimes it will stay off the whole drive, 30+ minutes, other times it will stay on for 2 days. I ran my autel vagcom scanner, and when the lights are on, I cant access the module, "link error". when tbhe light is off, I get 01203 In abs module, electrical connection between abs and instrument cluster, I also get code p1606 from engine constantly. I know nrmally that this indicates module failure, however I also had a seperated tire and ha ve a torn cv boot. I have heard that the grease can reak havok on the brake system, is it possible that it is just a dirty or loose sensor from the tire or grease? Or is definetly the abs module, I just want make sure before I drop a ton of money for a new module.

As far as the link error, check the connection at the ABS module and the connections at the cluster. If something is loose or going bad in those connections that would explain why it is intermittent. The reason the ABS modules die is because an electrical connection inside the module breaks. It's possible that that connection is about to go for good and that is why you can't communicate with it sometimes. I would unplug and then plug back in the connectors at the ABS module and cluster to make sure they are seated properly. Then clear your codes and see if they come back. One of the connectors on my cluster wasn't plugged all the way in so for the first couple of months I had my Audi I didn't get the light in the cluster telling me my headlights are on. The connectors at the cluster have a latch on the back of them that locks the connector in place. Make sure those get pushed all the way down when you plug them back in. One of mine wasn't.

Thanky for your response! am going to check the connectors in a little bit once it stops raining here, it looks like there is a ton of grease around the abs module, prob from the cv joint, i am hoping you are right and it is just dirty or loose, will clean it tonight and reseat it and check back tommorrow , i will also check the speed sensors, i know that those probably are not the issue but it never hurts to check right?
