Difference in ECU for manuel vs Automatic?
Hi everybody,
I recently bought an old Audi A4 1995, 2,6 V6, automatic. It came with a few problems, but I have sorted out most of them.
A month ago i started to run on 5 cylinders only. I took it to my local mechanic and he said that gasolin nozzel no. 1 did not recieving any injection informations from the ECU. So I would probably need to replace the ECU. He gave me the WV and Hella number for the ECU which I had in my car.

I found a ECU with matching serial number on Ebay and headet out to my nearest authorized Audi workshop to replace and recode the ECU. He looked up my "new" ECU and said that the letter "D" in the serial is reserved for manual gearboxes and that i got the wrong ECU for my car. I told him to replace it anyways, as the old ECU was running fine before the 5 cylinder issue. He changed it and the VAG-CPU said no errors.
The "new" ECU is running perfect on all 6 cylinders and with a lower idle RPM than the old one.
Now.. Do any of you know IF THERE IS a difference between the ECU for automatic and manuel on this audi model? I have always thought that car was shifting abit strange - not hash, just differently, and lacking some low rpm torque. It wasent like the other automatic cars that i have previously owned. Could this be the reason?
The ECU for automatic should end with a B or TA, I was told by the Audi mechanic.
Thanks in advance..
