Default different coils

I have the 99 A4 quattro 1.8. It looks like one of ignition coils are bad. I was wondering if it was okay to replace it with a new coil without the metal clip. i went to autozone to get the new coil, and i was recommended the one without the metal clip. Is this going to be okay, if with the rest of my coil packs have the metal clips?

Are you talking about the metal clip around the rubber grommet that holds the spark plug? What's the part number on your current coilpacks? There were several revisions. Do your current coilpacks bolt to the valve cover or are they the push-down variety?

Incidentally, there was also a recall on coilpacks for B5's. Couldn't hurt to call your local stealership with your VIN# and see if they've been replaced under that recall yet. You get one freebie from Audi, after that you'll have to replace them on your own.
