recently, before i bought my a4 i test drove another 99 a4 but didnt buy it. however it had a complete digital readout between the tach and speedo in all red. i also have a 99 a4 but mine only has the temp outside in digital. so my question is simple i guess...can i get that dash? if so will it keep my miles and all the gas info? also would i have to change my ecu? i apologize if i sound like an idiot...i really dont mean to.

You likely drove a facelift (99.5) car with the trip computer. The cluster is ECU-driven so you'd have to try and mate it up with an appropriate ECU, but then that usually ushers in a whole host of other issues. Honestly, it's likely to be FAR more headache than you're gonna want to deal with.

 

like he said you really don't want to do it. you don't have the harness to display the proper info on the screen, you might a well buy a 99.5+. however nothing's impossible if you throw enough greenbacks at it you know what i mean lol

 

Think of it this way. Just something less to go wrong with your Audi .

 

i guess eventual dead pixels are nothing to look forward to. oh well i just figured id ask. cant hurt to do that. thanks for all the responses...just curious though what would be the damage cash wise if i were crazy enough to try and use the digital dash?

i have the post face lift and my digital dash isn't really that interesting. the only good feature i find on it is the Auto-Check system that checks for light bulbs out and whatnot.

i'd say it's more trouble then it's worth, since it isn't really that useful.

 

I have a 97' with the digital dash.. works fine except for a few dead pixels
