Default Disconnecting the battery

Hey, I have read that if you disconnect the battery it can throw off the drivability and that you would have to get the car scanned at the dealer, is this true?

No, it won't. Just let the car stay in the on position for about a min after you put the key in without starting it. Then also make sure you have the code to reset your radio.

It shouldn't cause any harm, just reset the trip odo and lock out your radio.

Correct, it will erase most of the drivability data but won't cause a problem if you perform a throttle body adaption with either the vag com or leaving the key in the ON position for about 10 minutes. The rest of the fuel trim data and what not will be restored after about 20 miles of driving. You radio MAY go into safe mode, but not all of them do unless its been disconnected for more than 1 hour.

Do you really have to leave the key in the ON position for 10 minutes? The TB sensor stops making noise after about 30 seconds.

Also my radio didn't get locked out when any of the times I disconnected the battery. Is this only on certain trim levels/years?

^^^Yes you have to leave it for at least 8-10, the throttle body adaption thru the vag com takes more than 5 by itself.
The radio won't lose its code if you disconnect the battery less than 1-2 hours, it has a back up capacitor. Now if you disconnect the electrical connectors from the radio it will automatically go into safe mode.

If I was to do it via VAG-COM, is this the correct procedure?
