Default RE: Informative post on the AEB

I have a question. Is the piece I have circled here the thing that plugs into the top of the airbox? If I get just a cone filter, is it ok that it just sits out like that?

That's the connection to your MAF. You don't really have a choice but to let it sit out like that. The stock airbox has the MAF housing built into the air filter housing and the rubber plug seals up the airbox where the MAF plugs in.

Ok, so im sure this is is pretty much a newbie question and im sorry. To be honest I just got my car today 01 a4 1.8t 80k miles blah blah, great deal on it, too good if you ask me. but anyway i purchased the turbo xs rfl bov, and also the adapter kit to go along with it, is this installed the same way as described in your pictures? if not can you give me a hand? and also what would be your next steps in modifying the car? im having some preventative maintenance done to the car ie. timing belt/water pump done next week, and the cv boots in the front need to be done, and since its cheaper to just replace the axles im gonna do that. but just lookin for suggestions, info i suppose, sorry for bein such a noobie. Go easy on me ill get better. PS is 685 a good price for timing belt and Water Pump parts and labor? thanks.

a newbie searched for something?! you know what il give you credit just for finding this thread. however i will scold you for getting an RFL bov. you know what RFL stands for? (really friggen loud). you need to be sure you adjust the valve to be closed at idle or your going to have some problems. im not sure if the adapter you speak of works with audis, from what i found online its for STI's and such.

on the car there are two hoses that go to the stock diverter valve, both are 1" inside. so you need a valve with a 1" hose barb that you can clamp on to. if you are recirculating it you need a barb on each side. if you are venting it you need something to block off the hose your not using.

$685 is a steal for 8 hours of labor and $300 in parts. i hope your not getting this done at jiffy lube or something....

keep on searching!

hey thanks for the feedback guys. yea i found out what rfl means a little after i ordered it, i hope it works out ok? the adapter kit says its specifically for the 1.8t in audi/vw so im hoping it works. ill see if i can find the link ill show you VW/Detail I was asking a friend of mine and he said that it is closed at idle so thats good i guess. yea the 685 is at a pretty reputable shop and i made sure to inquire about the mechanic doing the job and he said hes done hundreds of them so we shall see i guess. So i have some freakin bad news guess i just want to vent, I have had my car for about 25 miles i guess and the damn engine light already popped. Im hoping its something minor and will be ok but im gonna keep her off the road for a little while until i can get it plugged into a computer. So pretty much your just sayin i have to plug off one of the hoses that essentially "diverts" the air back in? i guess i can do that lol. So the next step is the chip? any ideas? and does that increase the lbs of boost? how many lbs is stock? thanks guys im tryin over here just a lil frustrated and have only had the car for a little over a day.
heres the site for the adapter http://www.highperformanceoutlet.com...S-Audi--fdsh--
