No problem. It looks like the front subframe needs to be shifted to the right a bit as well.

SAI is steering axis inclination and NOT adjustable, but worth looking at every alignment to verify knuckle isn't bent.

Besides: Shifting the sub frame will correct one wheel/tire, while making the other worse, as they work as one unit and I have excessive negative camber on both wheels/tires. Also, you have to remember: I'm pulling to the right with correct toe. Hell, I even have the toe adjusted to counter the pull, but it doesn't help at all.[/ QUOTE]

You're right. My bad.

Another thought. I saw a B5 where they guy put the lower rear arm in the wrong hole. It's easy to do. See Bentley here. If you did it on both sides you'd make negative camber and toe in at the same time. There's enough room on the tie rod that you could adjust the toe back to normal, but the neg camber would still be there.

So how about this:

My problem was a case of severe radial pull. Go figure, huh?

I had my tires rotated and now it drives perfectly straight. The only problem now, is that the steering wheel is off and the place where I got my alignment at wants me to pay full alignment price (again) to have that done. **** that!

Does anyone know the proper way to adjust the steering wheel w/o messing w/tie rods or steering wheel removal?

Thanks

What do you mean severe radial pull? One of your tires is out of whack?

To straighten the wheel you'll either have to adjust the TREs or the wheel itself, no way around that. I would highly recommend leaving the wheel alone and fixing the alignment in the TREs since you'll be able to adjust it perfectly. If you remove the wheel, you're limited to moving it over one spline on the column which is unlikely to be exactly correct.

I mean that one of my new front tires was/is fucked up (but "safe") from the factory. Apparently it happens way more than you would ever imagine. This is the first time I've ever heard of it though.

I had the fronts rotated to the back and that instantly solved the problem.

It's at another shop right now, getting another alignment - to Audi specs.

On another note: Forgive my ignorance, but what is "TRE" again?

Thanks for all of the help guys!!

You're appreciated.

TRE = tie rod end.
Glad you're doing it right the first time.

Thanks!

Everything's great now. New steering rack, inner tie rods, outter tie rods, Upper and lower control arms (all 8), 2 new tires, new "Stage 1" clutch and matching (single mass) flywheel, sway bar links, ECS "Ultimate" timing kit and an Audi spec alignment.

I should be good now (for a little while anyway)

Thanks again guys.

Now would be the time to complain to the place you bought the tires since you will not be able to rotate them to the front. Possibly swap them right to left and it might not pull, but you have a ice cream cone tire. Tell them the importance of rotating and all wheel drive needing to be the same diameter. You want a tire you CAN use on the front and drive straight . Jmo.
