Default Does my transmission need s lobotomy

I have the transmission from cell. About 3 weeks In I noticed I had no reverse (lights came on). During this time shifts we rough in automatic and downright poor in tiptronic (when you could gt it to shift that way. against the better judgement of about 50% of the people I went ahead and changed teams fluid and filter. Not much change for a whileby lately I've noticed it's been going into limp mode quite a bit more. I have the torque program on my cell phone which is connected through the OBD port. This allows me to diagnose and clear faults on the fly. Here recently I clear it, which would take it out of limp mode, but only for about maybe 30 seconds. It acts this way for about 45 miles of driving man acts somewhat normal the last 15 minutes. I have noticed in town if I am at a stoplight in Tiptronic mode you will see the indicator bounce back and forth between 1st and 2nd and you can actually feel it. you are in regular automatic mode its like the car is starting off in 5th gearand it is a terrible sounding noise and feel when it finally kicks down. when I run a normal obd2 scan on the car I get "improper gear ratios" in 5th and 3rd but occasionally 4th and 2nd. when I recently connected it to the vagcom I got the following " 00652 Gear Monitoring
27-10 Implausible signal - Intermittent ". And "00526 Brake Light Switch -f. 27-00
Implausible signal". I ordered new vehicle speed sensor transmission and a neutral safety switch (f125) but the car seemed to be ok today. Any ideas? I m used to working on air cooled VWs. One final thing on the detonation test on my "torque program" you are US dntongold the thottlenwide open. When I dont his throttle only indicates 77% and when I double check it with a selectable throttle guage it only registers 76.7%. The car had a dead battery about four months ago right after I got the car. I did not have a bag com so I had ton pay someone to do it. I was wondering if there anyway I can set it so WIDE OPEN THROTTLE MEANSN100%. Any help would be absolutely great.

I'm a newby here and jumping on this thread. I too have a limp mode situation, but this is after I replaced my "bad" tranny with one I found used. However, it is going into limp mode now, even after a fluid and filter change. Was going into reverse fine even before the fluid change, but now, everything seemed to work fine for 40 seconds, then right into limp. Tech I towed it to said it could be wiring or an internal sensor in the tranny. Waiting for the final diagnosis tomorrow.

Have you tried running vag-com on it or even an OBDII scanner. I know on OBDII mine said incorrect gear ratio and it was usually 2,3 or 5. Ill get back to you with what it said on vag com (I just got it). The good news is mine is running ok (%95) of the time now. But it's funny it started acting right just after I spent $500 ordering the trans multi function switch and the trans speed sensor (even though I didn't put them in). If they tell you it is a trans speed sensor or a multi function switch (neutral safety switch) let me know. Like I said I have a brand new one of each. Keep me posted. Is it in limp mode all the time?

Hi, I did an OBDII scan, but only other codes showed up regarding cylinder not firing and I found it is a coil. Would be the third one in three years!

The limp mode only started the second time I started up the car after the tranny swap. The first time, she was running extremely rough, but I had her sitting around for months waiting to find a tranny.

Since I don't have a VAG-COM and have tried exchanging the tranny fluid before the swap without success, I brought it into a local indy shop; Audi specialist to do that job and they just found a trans speed sensor issue on the VAG-COM. I think I've seen threads on that somewhere last night. I may be in a market for one, but will have to verify. The tech wants to look some more to see if he can positively pinpoint the issue.

Thanks for the reply.

I noticed a pretty big change after changing the trans fluid again. I changed it again 8k later using redline and a quart of lucas. I would see if someone in your area has a vag com. U can buy a generic cable off ebay for like $25 bucks and get the lite program.

When you changed the tranny fluid, did you change the oil filter strainer in the tranny which is situated just below the valve body? If sludge gets in there, oil can't pass through quickly enough and the tranny loses gears or changes roughly.
Mine used to jump into neutral by itself when I'd come to a stop at lights and then kick back into drive with a thump when I'd hit the gas.
After changing oil, sump gasket and tranny oil filter strainer, all my problems went away - smooth ever since - now I change the oil once a year as well as the oil filter strainer.
You can buy them on eBay and it will save your tranny's life - just regularly change the oil.

Yes I changed the filter/strained. I still occasionally have a problem at a stoplight that is long with the car shifting between first and second but other than that is normal. I believe that second fluid change so quickly really helped.
