Door Unlocking Problems???
Hi everyone I'm new to forums, so if there is any pointers to foruming let me know. I have a 96 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8L 4 Door, I just bought intending to fix it up and keep it. The problems with the door is unusual, when I lock it with the key and switch from inside, I can hear the trunk and all the doors lock. When I lock it, it locks just the driver door, I tried passenger as well I even unlocked the door manually and tried it again to see if it actually locked them, but it does lock all of them and the key locks them as well, so everything is locking with the key and the switch but the unlocking is not. I'm going to check the fuses in the engine compartment tomorrow cause I think I read somewhere that's where it might be I already checked the inside fuses on the driver side all is good, that might also fix why the interior light does not turn on when I open the door (Works when turned on only). If anybody ran into or know anything let me know. Thanks ahead.

Huh? This post is confusing as hell! So the problem is the doors won't unlock when pressing the unlock switch or trying to unlock with the key? Jeesh, all that for one sentence. I would try replacing the central lock pump. Here's some background and a DIY: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec149.shtml and http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec131.shtml. Thanks.
Well the Pump works cause it locks all the doors, I manually unlocked all the door and then I pressed the switch and it locked all of the doors and I hear the motor running. I even hear it in the trunk. The Problem I'm having is unlocking for all the doors with the switch and doesn't the key unlock all the door when you turn it twice, it doesn't work. I will go to the junk yard and try it, as soon as I get a chance I want to check the fuses in the engine compartment.
I appreciate your help rcheing, It wasn't the pump like I said the door do lock but did not unlock. Anyways, I took the whole assembly and checked it out and found out that there were some corrison that it broke a lot of the connections. Solution Soldered new jumpers to the connector and new connection prongs from cluster circuit board that I had from a Honda accord, LOL, and it worked
I have a similar situation from what I can make of your OP.
I have a 99 a4... I have all the 3 original locks but the FOB key + remote is broken. I am not sure if the alarm system is messed up or its just because the key is not programmed to the car anymore..
When I lock the car... (either from the driver's side door, or the trunk), the alarm sets like it should; the locks drop and the red blinking alarm warning is ready.
The problem is when i try to UNLOCK the car from the driver's side door. If I unlock the car (ALL DOORS 2 TURNS LEFT IN KEYHOLE) from the trunk the alarm deactives, the car unlocks and the internal lights turn on as my preference aka. perfectly.
If I unlock the car from the driver's side door with my KEY, (1 or 2 turns to the left) the alarm sets off as if I was a thief($#IT!)....................???????
What should I do about this problem? I need to be able to use the alarm more conveniently? Whats the best option to get a new key? I called the AUDI ppl in phildelphia today and they told me the new key from AUDI is worth $140 and the programming is ~$100 so I guess around $240 -- even if I get that new key is my alarm or driver's side lock messed up?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think a new key and reprogram is going to fix your problem. I don't have a standard flip out key fob for my car, just a regular key, so I have to lock and unlock my car manually, without a programmed key. My alarm activates and deactivates as it should.
With that being said, I don't know how to fix your actual issue, but I hope I can save you 240 bucks you probably don't need to spend.
