I have a 99 2.8 and when I called the dealer they told me it was the green cylinder shaped piece. I had trouble locating where the sensor was located, can you take a few more pics further away from the engine so I know where to look? Did you have to remove anything to get to it?

those pics are directly behind the pass valve cover...they have a green sensor(round plug) or blue(square plug)....from what i have read you could have either one ......I am just trying to make sure I am looking at the right one.....I am new to these but learning alot from here...most threads are on the 1.8t....just hoping a 2.8 guy will jump in

i think that's the only thing in that area that looks like that. it's been a while since i did mine so i don't remember 100%. there should be a black clip towards the firewall side, just put a screw driver down and pry it out. make sure you have a new clip and o-ring too. when you pull the sensor out, unscrew the reservoir cap at the same time and as soon as the sensor comes out, screw the cap back in so coolant doesn't flow out. put the new one in in the same fashion
