hey guys i have a 98 a4 quattro 1.8t and im getting my giac chip in like a week and i want to do somethin with my exaust to maximize flow for the higher boost its gonna have.. but i cant afford a whole system right now so would it be ok if i kept the stock piping and just cut out the resonator and welded a straight pipe in there, cut the muffler off and welded a borla muffler on and put a test pipe instead of the cat? would it sound ok or just be a waste of time

 

i say do it right or not at all. even if you did the testpipe or a dp it would make a difference. you want 2.5" piping atleast so theres no point in cutting out the muffler and put on a magnaflow one, it might give u a tiny bit of flow, but not enough to feel anything. basically it would just sound cool.

 

waste of time, only because you dont need to do this for only a chip. you can do it because you want to do it, or to change the tone of the exhaust, but all that is not necessary for a chip. a test pipe might give you a few extra hp (maybe 10) though.

 

It would be a bit of a hack job, but it would definitely work. Two things though, if you cut off the resonator, its gonna be pretty loud. Also, if you live someplace that does emissions inspection there's no way that would pass. GL!

 

cool thx guys.. ya i dont have emissions so i dont have to worry. i will probably just wait till i can get a full system i just wanted to get all the power i could outta the ko3 i already have the test pipe and a fmic in the garage ,i know the fmic wont help much with the ko3 but i already have it so im just gonna put it in.. but im gonna wait till next week when i get it chipped..
