Default the famous "clunking" noise

Many have probably herd the famous ca clunk sound from either your front left or right wheels going over bumps. Well i had this on both sides and replaced all my control arms, upper lower and tie rods and its still there? any ideas.

Thanks

I've experienced this on both of my A4's and in both cases it was the brakes. The friction material had separated from the metal backing and was clunking around whenever i wasn't on the brakes.

That's weird I've never herd that before. How did you go about fixing it?

Thanks

I did the A8/TT upgrade lol. But I'm sure just doing new pads/rotors and cleaning up the brake components would be fine.

If it's not brakes I wonder if it could be worn upper strut mounts?

Metalman, that's what I was thinking. It also can be CV joints starting to fail.

This ! My MKIV jetta as well as my b5 a4 did this and I knew it was the cause, just never replaced them.

I've also got an odd clunk on the driver side in the front, coming from around the steering rack. Seems to me it's the inner tie rod, so that could be another possibility here.

I've tried replacing my upper strut mounts and had no luck getting the top nut off. Anyone have any tricks for this?

Break it loose with the weight of the car on it, with a strong impact gun
