Hello people,

My 2001 A4 2.8 recently started displaying a flashing red Engine Coolant symbol. This displays shortly after starting, but if I keep driving the engine or oil temp itself (from the analog dials on the dash) does not rise. Car performs well with no symptoms. The red symbol continues to display.

I ran a vag-com diagnostic and got no fault codes. Coolant level itself appears to be okay. Can anyone help with further debugging?

Make sure the coolant level sending sensor thingy is plugged all the way in on the bottom of the tank. Also start the car up and let it warm up THEN check the coolant to see if it's ok still.

Also are you saying your oil temp and coolant temp gauges both read 0 when your car is warmed up? If so you might have a nice electrical problem or ALL three of those sensors went out. Did this all start happening at the same time?

* You say the sensor is at the bottom of the tank? I will check.
* Checked car when it was warm, level still ok
* Oil temp reads between 150 and 250, and coolant temp is midway between cold and hot. Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier

 

Oh, ok the the other (coolant and oil) temps are fine.

 

Thats right where they should be.

 

Check the coolant level sensor though. It might be coming unplugged or it's bad and you will need a new one.
