Default Flexpipes

I have both my flex pipes blown through with rust and holes. I need to replace them but the shop i took it to said i need to replace my whole cats also. The cats are fine, but they are too close to just cut and weld. Any ideas on what to do. What could i do instead of replace that, they are quoting 1800. I can get a brand new exhaust cheaper than that. Thanks.

You'll have to find a mechanic that welds. He'll have to
take the exhaust apart, weld the flex pipes on and install.

Just take this time to change out the cats to high flow ones or something. I mean might as well do it while your getting that done and if your doing that might as well get an aftermarket resonator and Magnaflow muffler put in too haha.

I had a similar issue. My drivers flex was damaged and they claimed I needed to buy a whole new downpipe because the flexpipes are connected to them as one piece.

That's complete foolishness. Its common practice for shops to sever and weld these parts. You do NOT NEED new cats. I just had some exhaust work done and they were able to weld new flexs in there no problem. I actually did replace the cats too, but that's because I wanted to...I was replacing the whole system. Some others on here have had just the flex's welded-in.

The shop should charge less than $200 for the labour and the parts are cheap.

^ Use it as an excuse to get high flow cats.

I just had my right side one done 2 days ago. They just cut out the bad flex with a saw-all, had a selection of flex pipes on hand. Some with pipe stubs on each end, some just on one end and some with no stubs at all. Various diameters too. It took him an hour and I paid $180 + tax. I was kind of pissed since the posted labor rate was $75/hr.
